CHICAGO — In previous films and documentaries about John Lennon or, say, Bette Midler, director John Scheinfeld always knows where the narrative is going to take him. The route may surprise, but not the destination. As he focused his lens on the Chicago Cubs, their fans and a 100-year-old quest for salvation, he came to appreciate the uncertainty of the story.
